Social Rides – Cold Weather Policy

During the recent cold weather there have been a number of incidents with a number of club members sliding on black ice. So far these have fortunately of a minor nature and we wish a speedy recovery to all of those involved and are grateful that the effects have not been more serious.

As a result of this, as ride organisers, we have reviewed the club’s safety procedures in respect of club rides during inclement weather. The following policy will be adopted with immediate effect:

In the event that the weather is forecast to be at or below zero at any time over night and due to remain below +2 deg C at 08:00 then club rides for that day will be cancelled. We shall be using the Meteorological Office forecast for the Crawley area (available at: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcpfg9hty) for the purpose of this policy.

Nominated ride leaders will not be expected to meet at the designated ride start point but are encouraged to contact the relevant ride organiser in the case of doubt. Club members however remain free to meet at usual start point and ride at their own risk but any such ride will not be considered to be an official Crawley Wheelers ride.
